Mr. Ma Lincong, Secretary-General, China Association For Standardization (CAS), Beijing, PRC, has nominated the most advanced English-Chinese and multilingual translation technology, created by H. C. Tien, M.D., a Michigan physician in East Lansing, President & Founder, Chinese Computer Communications, Inc. (CCC) for the 2006 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

1) What, briefly, is your innovation? Internet-Chinese® IT (Information Technology) is an innovation for international communication. Like English, Internet-Chinese is a readable, pronounceable Latinized language. It is also convertible to Chinese characters, English and other scripts on the Net. The core innovation of Internet-Chinese IT is based on 10 basic Chinese stroke letters: TiENSTROKES® Code.

2) What is the current situation in the field in which your innovation appears? China joined WTO in 2001. China’s status in the world economy is more decisive in the marketplace. English-Mandarin translation technology becomes highly competitive. It holds broad market potential. All products (e.g. Cars to Computers) and services (e.g. Advertising to China Olympics) require Chinese, English, and multilingual translation.

3) What is the problem with this situation that your innovation is seeking to address? Western companies invested in PRC eventually become dismayed by high costs of using English and time delay of waiting for unreadable Chinese translations. Current English-Chinese language systems are complex, error-prone, unwieldy and plagued by competitive ‘standards’. This becomes painfully obvious in ‘unreadable codes’ in Chinese emails and web pages.

4) How does your innovation address this situation?
